Football Roundup: Denver Mount Late Rally Versus Philadelphia, Baltimore Suffer Record Home Loss
Denver Broncos 21–17 Philadelphia Eagles
Bo Nix found an 11-yard scoring throw and JK Dobbins added another rushing score in the fourth quarter as the Broncos erased a two-touchdown disadvantage to deliver the Eagles their initial defeat of the season. Denver's defense batted down Jalen Hurts' last-gasp pass on the game's concluding play to send the Super Bowl champions to just their second loss in their previous 22 outings. The Broncos (3-2) caught a huge break in their comeback when the Philadelphia had a crucial play called back on an illegal shift penalty whistled against star ball carrier Barkley.
Texans Dominate Depleted Ravens in Record Win
CJ Stroud threw for 244 passing yards and four scoring throws, and Houston (two wins and three losses) cruised to a 44-10 win over a depleted Baltimore team, matching both the most lopsided road win in the franchise's record books and the worst home defeat in Ravens' history. The Ravens (1-4) were without star signal-caller Jackson, and that was not their only problem. Defensive standouts Kyle Hamilton, Roquan Smith and Marlon Humphrey all were absent, and the Baltimore already were depleted on defense because of a neck problem that concluded Nnamdi Madubuike's campaign. Baltimore were also without Pro Bowl blocker Ricard and offensive lineman Stanley.
Las Vegas Raiders 6–40 Indianapolis Colts
Jonathan Taylor ran for three rushing scores and a two-point conversion, and Daniel Jones passed for two scoring throws as the Colts routed the Las Vegas Raiders. This decisive advantage was Indy's largest since the 2013 season. The quarterback finished 20 of 29 for 212 yards and improved to four wins and one loss as the starting quarterback this season, surpassing his combined victory total over the past two seasons with the Giants. The running back rushed 17 times for 66 yards and grabbed three passes for 20 receiving yards. The Colts converted multiple takeaways into touchdowns. Las Vegas fell to 4-1.
Dallas Cowboys 37-22 New York Jets
Dak Prescott passed for four scoring throws, guiding the Dallas Cowboys to an easy victory over the New York Jets. The Cowboys put points on the board on two 90-yard drives in the second quarter, even with being without key linemen on the blocking unit. Javonte Williams ran for 135 yards and a touchdown and also hauled in a receiving touchdown. The Cowboys, now two wins, two losses, and a tie, rebounded from a 40-40 tie against the Packers last Sunday. The Jets remain winless at zero wins and five losses in Aaron Glenn's first season as the leader.
Minnesota Vikings 21–17 Cleveland Browns
Vikings receiver Addison grabbed a 12-yard touchdown pass from the quarterback with 25 seconds remaining to give Minnesota victory over the Cleveland Browns at the UK venue. The 10-play, 80-yard drive gave the Vikings (3-2) a much-needed win on their historic international road trip, which started with a narrow defeat to the Pittsburgh in Ireland last Sunday. It also spoiled the rookie's first NFL start, as the Browns rookie put his team (1-4) in contention by throwing two scores. Another first-year player Quinshon Judkins rushed for 110 yards on 23 attempts. The quarterback overcame a shoulder injury that temporarily forced him out and directed two touchdown marches in the second half.
Miami Dolphins 24-27 Carolina Panthers
Carolina's quarterback threw for two scores and the running back rushed for 206 rushing yards and a score as the Panthers rallied past the Miami Dolphins in their home stadium. Young's short pass to rookie tight end Mitchell Evans with under two minutes to play gave the Carolina (two wins and three losses) the decisive advantage as they equaled the largest comeback to win a game in franchise history by overcoming a 17-point hole. The QB had a horrific first quarter, but he finished 19-for-30 passing for 198 passing yards with an interception. The backup, replacing the sidelined starter, did his work on the ground on 23 carries, falling just short of matching the team's all-time rushing mark. Miami's quarterback completed 27 passes out of 36 for 256 passing yards with three scores and receiver Waddle gained 110 receiving yards on six receptions and scored a touchdown, but the Miami (1-4) dropped to 0-3 in road games.
Saints Secure First Win Under New Coach
New Orleans' quarterback passed for a long score to receiver Shaheed, defensive back Howden returned a fumble the length of the field for a touchdown, and the Saints defeated the error-prone New York Giants for the New Orleans' first victory under first-year head coach Moore. Rattler earned his maiden win in 11 career starts, passing for 225 passing yards without a turnover. Giants rookie QB Dart, who won his debut last week, passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns, but also turned the ball over on three occasions. New York turned the ball over on five separate plays in all, with none worse than when the defender forced a fumble from running back Cam Skattebo, resulting in the safety's touchdown. Both teams are 1-4.
