Jim Gavin Withdraws From Irish Presidential Race With Immediate Effect
Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin stated he is pulling out from the race for Ireland's head of state immediately.
He was scheduled to be one of three candidates vying for the role of Irish president, beside Independent TD Catherine Connolly and Heather Humphreys of Fine Gael.
Yet, Sunday night he announced via a statement that he "committed an error that was not in keeping with my character and the standards he upholds."
"Considering all these factors, I've chosen to exit the election for president with immediate effect and go back to my family," he declared in his announcement.
Additional details to come.
